Every register operates in shifts. A shift tracks all sales, returns, and cash movements from open to close.
3.1 Opening a Shift
- Go to the register detail page
- Click Open Shift
- Enter the Opening Cash amount (count the cash in the drawer)
- Click Start Shift
You must open a shift before you can process sales on a register.
3.2 During a Shift
While a shift is open, you can:
- Process sales on the register
- Record Cash Movements (cash in/out) for petty cash, float top-ups, or other reasons
- View running totals
3.3 Recording Cash Movements
- On the register or shift page, click Cash In or Cash Out
- Enter the amount
- Provide a reason (e.g. "Petty cash withdrawal", "Float top-up")
- Add optional notes
- Click Record
Cash movements are tracked in the shift audit trail and affect the expected cash calculation.
3.4 Closing a Shift
- Go to the open shift
- Click Close Shift
- Count the cash in the drawer and enter the Closing Cash
- The system calculates Expected Cash based on:
- Opening cash + Cash sales − Cash refunds + Cash in − Cash out
- Any difference is reported as Cash Variance (over or short)
- Add closing notes if needed
- Click Close Shift
3.5 X-Report (Shift Reconciliation)
- Go to a shift (open or closed)
- Click X-Report
- View a detailed breakdown:
- Sales by payment method
- Returns and refunds
- Cash movements
- Expected vs. actual cash
- Variance analysis
