13.1 Applied Versus Actual
Batches take in wages and power at your rates as time is logged, and fixed costs over a normal month's output. What they do not take in stays in cost of sales, as IAS 2 asks.
The page, titled Factory costs for the chosen month, shows:
- Factory costs booked — posted ledger entries on your factory cost accounts
- Taken into batches — labour, power and overhead applied
- Left in cost of sales — booked less taken in
- Output — weighted units made as a percentage of normal output
Factory costs this month splits these into Production wages, Power and fuel and Fixed factory costs, with the accounts in each row. Where the fixed costs went shows each product's units made, weighted units and overhead. The last chart shows weighted units for six months against your normal output.
If normal output or factory accounts are missing, the page asks you to Finish setting up factory costs in Settings.
13.2 Above-Normal Output
The overhead rate is fixed monthly cost ÷ the larger of normal output and the month's actual weighted output. In a busy month, the rate drops so stock is never valued above its share of fixed cost.
For example, with GH₵2,400.00 a month and normal output of 6,000:
- A slow month making 4,000 weighted units applies GH₵0.40 each, so GH₵1,600.00 goes into batches and GH₵800.00 stays in cost of sales
- A busy month making 8,000 weighted units applies GH₵0.30 each, so exactly GH₵2,400.00 goes into batches
Finishing a batch applies the current month's cap. As more batches finish, SikaBooks adjusts earlier batches of the month once. The adjustments follow made materials into work in progress, finished stock, sold goods and abnormal loss, and post as Above-normal fixed overhead adjustment · PRD-… and Overhead cost flow · PRD-…. The original batch record stays unchanged; its batch cost page shows a separate month-end valuation adjustment.
Do not raise the normal output for one slow month. Review it over several months, allowing for planned maintenance and usual working conditions.
13.3 Closing a Month
- Choose the Month and click Filter
- Review the figures and any adjustment explanation
- Resolve any Accounting postings before closing warning. Open each affected production order, correct the cause and use Retry posting. Pending or failed postings dated on or before the month's end block closing, even if Accounting has since been switched off
- Click Close {Month} for manufacturing and confirm
You can close only a month that has ended. Closing keeps the rates, output and report as a snapshot for audit. After closing, any Manufacturing posting dated in that month is refused with "{Month} is closed for manufacturing. Choose a date in an open month." Choose a date in an open month instead of rewriting the closed record. Accounting's own period locks still apply.
The close checks postings again after its valuation adjustments. If an adjustment journal fails, the close and its new adjustments roll back; previously saved physical work remains intact. Recover the original posting rather than recording the production work a second time.
13.4 Reopening a Month
Click Reopen month, enter the Reason for reopening and confirm. The previous close and the reason stay in the audit trail and are listed on the page.
13.5 If Accounting Is Not Enabled
Applied batch costs, output and the month lock all work. Booked factory costs need Accounting, so those figures are not shown.
